Scandals that shook Jessie Wallace-suspensions, driving bans and ‘drunken’ shame

Jessie Wallace is currently in the EastEnders dog house after allegedly landing herself a suspension for boozing on set.

The 48-year-old actress, who plays feisty Kat Slater, was apparently hauled in for crisis talks after 'making an a***' of herself during filming for the 35th anniversary episode.

Show bosses are said to be scrabbling to come up with ways to tackle her sudden exit from the BBC One soap, including possible storylines about Kat going to rehab.

"Bosses were left with no choice but to discipline her. During the meeting she was told to sort herself out before returning to work," a source told Mirror Online.

And a second insider told the Daily Star: “Jessie has had plenty of troubles and brought plenty of drama of her own to the set. Writers are now thinking about a plot line that involves an intervention and rehab for drinking for Jessie’s character.”

Jessie has apparently been struck off for two months, and a friend of the long-time Albert Square star said she fears she's skating on thin ice.

“She knows one more strike and she could be out. Something needs to change," the insider told The Sun.

“It’s a well known saying within EastEnders that nobody is bigger than the soap.”

It's not the first time Jessie has raised eyebrows with her behaviour.

Back in 2018 she got 'ordered home' from the British Soap Awards before the ceremony had even started for being 'too drunk'.

Jessie apparently rocked up half cut to the pre-awards reception at East London’s Hackney Empire, and is said to have loudly refused to put the breaks on her boozing.

Instead, she reportedly wound up being sent home in a taxi at 7pm.

“Jessie had obviously been drinking quite heavily before she arrived," a source told The Sun.

“She was slurring her words, and then started knocking them back at the pre-ceremony party too.

“Someone approached her and told her she needed to slow down but she seemed to totally ignore the advice and was angry about being told what to do.

In January 2003 she was suspended from the soap for two months over her wild ways.

Admitting she'd been a 'little sod', Jessie told the Guardian she had taken her position for granted and lost 'perspective'.

She said: "It really was a kick in the teeth. I would turn up late. I was so blasé about stuff. I don't think I was very popular at the time on set. The two months' suspension gave me two months to think about what I was doing."

Just weeks later she was arrested for drink driving when police pulled over her silver Mercedes in Chelmsford and found the star to be one and a half times over the limit.

Her uncle tried to defend her in court, claiming he'd spiked her white wine with vodka because, "She was a bit subdued, I thought I would cheer her up.

"She is very comical when she has had a few drinks," he continued.

But the judge didn't buy it and handed her Jessie – who had previously been banned for 15 months for refusing to take a breathalyser test – another three year ban and a £1,000 fine.

Meanwhile, her love life has been equally dramatic, especially after she fell in love with the police officer assigned to look after her during the court case.

She moved in with copper Dave Morgan after just a month of dating, and an engagement soon followed along with the birth of their daughter Tallulah.

But they parted ways in a blaze of acrimony after two rocky years, with Dave said to have signed a gagging order.

Her 2011 wedding to catering boss Vince Morse was called off on the day when she found out he'd allegedly been sexting his ex.

She was also linked to Paul Whitworth, an old friend of gang boss Reggie Kray and American toyboy Andy Burton.

And in 2018 her ex Chris Osborn, 51, sensationally claimed the actress would regularly pass out from boozing and that alcohol-induced paranoia left her convinced hidden cameras were spying on her.

Speaking to The Sun, the builder, from Enfield, North London, claimed: "Our relationship was 100mph.

“She loves screaming and shouting, effing and blinding. She’d buy £30 bottles [of Sancerre] and get obliterated at home rather than go out — probably because she knew she’d be pictured looking a mess."

As for her family, like her character Kat, things are far from rosy with her siblings.

Last October it emerged she was at war with her family, with her younger sister Danielle confirming their bitter feud to the Daily Star.

“We’ve fallen out again. She stitched me up on my birthday, so I got the hump. I just got the nark. We fell out," she said.

“We had a massive row and called each other all the names under the sun. It was worse than anything on a soap opera."

The sisters previously fell out for 10 years after Danielle accused Jessie of ignoring her stepfather Ron Mason during his battle with leukaemia.

EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite slammed as she tries to hire builders after blasting those out in coronavirus lockdown – The Sun

TAMZIN Outhwaite has been slammed by fans for attempting to hire builders in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The former EastEnders star, 49, took to Twitter to ask her followers for advice on building work at her home.

⚠️ Read our coronavirus live blog for the latest news & updates

She wrote: "I’m confused. Can I find 1 or 2 workmen to level and tile an area of the garden in these times?"

And while some followers were keen to offer their suggestions, others quickly let her know the work was "non essential".

One wrote: "Just why though? No grey needed. Not essential, not needed, saving lives is and that’s not a grey area. It’s simple, non-essential, do not do it!"

Another said: "This is so non essential."

A third commented: "Considering you could not believe people were still going out a few days ago, I cannot believe you are expecting people to come out to fix some paving slabs for you !! Practice what you preach."

Following the lockdown announcement, the government has said that builders on sites should continue to work but that they must practice social distancing.

The decision has been questioned by many and yesterday Piers Morgan accused ministers of "putting money above lives" by allowing builders to keep working.

Tamzin's post comes days after she urged fans to stay in doors amid the deadly bug.

She previously wrote online: "I can’t believe how many of you are still going out!"

Tamzin has two daughters with her ex-husband and Lucifer actor Tom Ellis: Marnie, seven, and Florence, 11.

The pair married in 2006 and split in 2014 after he reportedly cheated on her with Lost actress Emilie de Ravin.

However, the star has since found love with toyboy Tom Child, 28, who she has dated for two years after meeting at a yoga class.

Are EastEnders' Tiffany Butcher and Keegan Baker going to break up?

TIFFANY and Keegan’s marriage reached breaking point last night in EastEnders after Keegan’s application for a business loan was rejected.

Keegan blamed a string of racial injustices for his angry behaviour, but Tiffany told him that was no excuse – and that everyone has challenges to overcome.

Are Tiffany and Keegan going to break up in EastEnders?

EastEnders are yet to confirm Keegan and Tiffany’s fate on the soap.

But things weren’t looking great for the couple in last night’s episode after Keegan reached boiling point.

Keegan hit rock bottom when he received a letter telling him his application for a loan for his sandwich business had been rejected.

But Tiffany was having none of it when he tried to take his frustrations out on her and confronted him over his angry behaviour.

When she told him the loan rejection didn’t matter, he erupted: “Are you still going to be this chilled when I’m a 50-year-old black man still trying to sell sandwiches out of a basket.”

Tiffany told him to get back up and try again, before telling him that being black isn’t a disability.

She added that she didn’t let the challenges she faces as a woman bring her down.

She said: “I don’t know why it’s all got to be about labels, and why it’s got to be about the colour of your skin. Maybe your business plan just wasn’t quite good enough.”

Flabbergasted, Keegan accused Tiff of not getting him.

She rebutted by asking who it was that was sleeping on the sofa, before telling him his behaviour was wrecking them.

However, fans will have to tune in to find out whether their marriage will reach a bitter end, or whether Keegan will change his ways.

Why is Keegan so angry in EastEnders?

Fans will know that a string of racial injustices has left Keegan at his wits end in EastEnders.

Viewers will remember how the police recently carried out a stop and search on him after a moped driver in the area stole a phone from a passer-by.

An outraged Keegan accused the police of stopping him based only on his race but they continued anyway.

History repeated itself this month when Keean and Tiffany spotted a thief running out of their home and realised they’d been burgled.

A scuffle ensued as Keegan fought the thief for Tiff’s engagement ring.

But when the police arrived they jumped on Keegan and slammed his head onto the pavement, letting the thief run away.

To make matters worse, a humiliated Keegan was then kicked out of the hospital waiting room for getting aggressive when he wasn't seen to for hours.

And last night's loan application rejection seemed to be the final straw.

EastEnders ratings soar by THREE MILLION as the nation goes on coronavirus lockdown – The Sun

EASTENDERS ratings surged three million in the ratings last night as the coronavirus pandemic continued.

The BBC soap hit a high of 9.32m with an average across the episode of 6.49m – easily the soap's highest ratings of the last few years.

Coronation Street also soared to 6.43m people watching its first episode of the night.

In the immediate aftermath of EastEnders' episode, the Prime Minister's address to the nation to order a lockdown in all but name was watched by more than 15 million people on BBC One alone.

With other channels added it was watched on television by more than 27 million people making it one of the most watched moments in British television history.

The bumper soap ratings will be of little comfort to the BBC and ITV after the channels were forced to halt production on all continuing dramas over the pandemic.

In an effort to keep the soaps airing for as long as possible, EastEnders will now broadcast just twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale will air just three times per week each – going out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7pm.

And on Channel 4, Hollyoaks will broadcast Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and a first look episode following at 7pm on E4.

The reduced schedules mean the soaps should air until at least July when it is hoped production should be back underway to resume.

The behind the scenes teams on the soaps are still working away on scripts and reimagining storylines for the rest of the year.

Corrie bosses are determined to stick to plans for a bombshell 60th anniversary in December, while Hollyoaks will celebrate its 25th anniversary in October.

EastEnders’ Tamzin Outwaite slams those ignoring self-isolating advice

Tamzin Outhwaite has slammed people who are still going out, amid the coronavirus outbreak.

People in the UK have been advised to stay in their homes and self-isolate, following the health scare, with the government ordering pubs and restaurants to close.

However, the EastEnders legend has now hit out at those who are choosing not to follow their warnings, after the UK death toll jumped to more than 200.

Taking to Twitter, the actress – who plays Mel Owen – fumed: ‘I can’t believe how many of you are still going out!’

Opening up about her own quarantine experience, the 49-year-old admitted she would love to go back to work.

‘My house is a tip & my kids have no respect for me…what I would give to go to work,’ she said.

‘Still we are all inside on day 6 of self isolation. I can’t imagine how people must feel who are separated from their children during this.

‘Even when the kids are being annoying, hold them tight.’

Fans rushed to agree with Tamzin, blasting those who didn’t follow the guidelines.

One replied: ‘I know right? Do people still not realise this is serious?’

‘A week ago it would have been inconceivable that all schools, bars, restaurants etc would be shut. People need to start taking this very seriously,’ another commented.

‘UK cases & death rate escalating at faster rate than Italy & China combined at this stage. Scary that people don’t realise this’

‘It’s infuriating, it really is. I live in a seaside town and there are people on the beach, queuing for fish and chips and ice cream,’ a Twitter user agreed.

‘We will be forced into a complete lockdown of people don’t start listening. Just stay inside.’

While a follower added: ‘It’s outrageous! Why aren’t people listening!’

Tamzin’s tweets come after it was revealed that EastEnders bosses had halted production amid the global pandemic.

A BBC spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement, explaining that the show would be aired twice a week for the foreseeable future, down from the usual four episodes.

‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice,’ it read.

‘The decision was made after the latest government update.

‘We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.

We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two, so that we can ensure the audience can continue to enjoy EastEnders in their homes for as long as possible.’

Episodes will air Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7:30pm with immediate effect.

In a statement shared Wednesday the BBC said: ‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice.

EastEnders fans up in arms as Queen Vic welcomes punters on St Patrick’s Day – despite government advice to avoid pubs – The Sun

EASTENDERS fans were left shocked last night as the Queen Vic carried on as normal and celebrated St Patrick’s Day – despite the real world being on lockdown.

While Boris Johnson has warned the country to avoid pubs in an attempt to contain coronavirus – in Walford it’s clearly business as usual.

⚠️ Read our coronavirus live blog for the latest news & updates

The soap is yet to mention the pandemic despite usually addressing real life events and those watching at home are not impressed.

During last night’s episode landlord Mick (Danny Dyer) was seen welcoming punters for a pint of Guinness in the pub, which he had decorated with bunting and leprechauns.

The boozer was full of people in green outfits enjoying the festivities, while the rest of the country is sat at home on the sofa.

Taking to Twitter to discuss it, one person wrote: “The #QueenVic seems very busy this evening ….. should I tell them, or will someone else? #EastEnders #SocialDistancing.”

A second added: “I see no one at the Queen Vic’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations is following government coronavirus guidelines to avoid pubs… in fact very little social distancing going on at all in Walford #EastEnders.”

While a third wrote: “Queen Vic must be the only pub in the country celebrating St Patrick's day! #EastEnders.”

The soap’s continuation with no mention of coronavirus comes as a baby and nine-month-old boy have been diagnosed with coronavirus as the killer bug continues to sweep the UK.

In the UK, coronavirus has killed 71 people while a total of 1,950 have been struck down with the illness.

First Look at EastEnders £87m brand new set

EastEnders: FIRST LOOK at the soap’s £87m set as construction continues amid coronavirus pandemic… including a brand new Queen Vic, flats and extended railway line

  • The revamped studio is being built to perfect replicate EastEnders’ old set, which is based just feet away
  • The Elstree set will feature all of Albert Square’s staples, including the Queen Vic pub and the Walford East station
  • EastEnders first announced plans to build a new studio in 2013, and was planned to be completed in August 2018
  • In October 2017 the plan was revised, with the BBC saying the set will cost £86.7 million and not be fully completed until 2023
  • Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

EastEnders have revealed a glimpse of their revamped set, as it continues to take shape amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The extended studio – based mere feet away from the old set – includes a brand new Queen Vic pub, railway line and block of flats to replicate the soap’s original setting, and is thought to have cost an eye-watering £87 million.

EastEnders’ brand new set was first announced four years ago when it was also revealed that the show’s old 1984 set was in poor condition.

New look: EastEnders have revealed a glimpse of their £87 million revamped set, as it continues to take shape amid the coronavirus pandemic

As well as an extension of the famous Albert Square, EastEnders’ new set will feature a brand new block of flats to house all manner of colourful characters.

The set will also boast an extended railway line for the famous Walford East tube station, as well as the legendary Queen Vic pub, which has housed many a soap drama.

EastEnders’ new set has been perfectly built to replicate the old East End set, which had been in use since the soap first began in 1984.

Hard at work: The new set – which is based mere feet away from the old studio – has been in the works for several years at the soap’s studio in Elstree

Big changes: The brand new set (pictured) features all of Albert Square’s staples, as well as a brand new version of the Queen Vic pub, a block of flats and a railway line

Transformed: The old set (left) had been used since the soap’s beginning in 1984, and in 2013 BBC revealed plans to build the new set (right) after the old one fell into poor condition

According to The Telegraph last year, ongoing maintenance issues on the old set hampered the show’s filming schedule and presented health and safety concerns.

The updated set will allow the crew to film the programme in HD as bosses feared filming above standard definition on the current set would allow viewers to notice that the fronts of the Queen Vic and its surrounding buildings are made of plaster and plywood.

The HD set’s buildings are made entirely out of brick, however the crew are working diligently to ensure they appear identical on camera to the buildings that viewers are familiar with.

Investment: The updated set will allow the crew to film in HD as bosses feared filming above standard definition on the current set (pictured) would allow viewers to notice that the fronts of the some buildings were made of plaster and plywood

Controversial: The new and improved Walford has not come without its detractors, however, as The Sun previously reported that neighbors were left disgruntled by the loud noises of builders working on the set

The new and improved Walford has not come without its detractors, however, as The Sun previously reported that neighbours were left disgruntled by the loud noises of builders working on the set.

The BBC said in response: ‘We are extremely mindful of the neighbouring properties and have ensured residents are regularly updated. We keep all out-of-hours work to an absolute minimum.’

In 2013 the BBC said the new set would cost £59.7million to be completed in August 2018.

However in October 2017 this was revised, with the broadcaster saying the set will cost £86.7 million and not be fully completed until 2023.

Scary: Construction for the brand new set (pictured) also continues as filming for all of the UK’s biggest soaps has been thrown into doubt amid the coronavirus outbreak

Still a long wait: In 2013 the BBC said the new set would cost £59.7million to be completed in August 2018. In October 2017 this was revised, with the broadcaster saying the set will cost £86.7 million and not be fully completed until 2023

The BBC said in a statement: ‘The set of EastEnders was built in 1984 and only intended for use for two years. Over 30 years later, the show remains one of the BBC’s flagship programmes and yet is filming from a set that is no longer fit for purpose.

‘The new set will be suitable for HD filming for the first time and extend Walford to better reflect modern East End London.’

Construction for the set also continues as filming for all of the UK’s biggest soaps has been thrown into doubt amid the coronavirus outbreak.

On Monday Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted the members of the public avoid any social contact, and those who are particularly vulnerable ordered to remain at home for at least 12 weeks.

EastEnders continues on Tuesday at 7:30pm on BBC One.

EastEnders spoilers: Sharon Watts attacks estranged husband Phil as he returns after causing Dennis' death

SHARON Watts launches at Phil with a KNIFE in an explosive showdown after he returns for Dennis Rickman’s funeral.

Sharon holds Phil personally responsible for the death of her son after he caused the boat to crash.

EastEnders fans know that Phil scarpered sharpish earlier this year when Sharon got his arrested for ‘murdering’ Keanu.

But once he realised Sharon's toy boy was back on the scene, he wasted little time in returning to the UK to seek revenge.

However, Phil’s revenge plan spiralled catastrophically out of control when he launched an attack against Keanu aboard the boat – during a party hosted by Queen Vic landlady and landlord Linda and Mick.

Phil’s antics caused the boat to crash and caused water to come pouring into the decks below.

After Ian trapped Dennis below the deck for bullying his son Bobby, he met his tragic fate during the crash and drowned.

Phil hasn’t been seen since the tragedy.

Next week’s episodes of EastEnders will see Sharon's stress levels sky rocket as the day of Dennis's funeral arrives.

When Jay arrives with a bunch of flowers, Sharon is quick to ban all Mitchells from the sad day.

The grieving mother is overwhelmed during the wake and breaks down.

But it all kicks off when Ben Mitchell rocks up defiantly at the funeral in order to pay his respects.

Sharon can't believe her eyes and demands to know what he's doing there.

Ian steps in and tries to calm Sharon down but as they leave she bristles when she sees Phil.

The next day, Sharon loses it and launches at Phil with a knife, forcing Ian and Kathy to intervene.

Phil begs to speak to Sharon and kicks Ian’s door down.

But on the other side he's met with a barrage of abuse from Sharon.

Things escalate rapidly, leading Ian to phone the police.

But by the time they arrive, Phil has run off and is nowhere to be found.

At the Mitchell’s, Phil nurses a drink but as Jay encourages him otherwise, the police arrive forcing him to hide.

Sharon later searches for Phil and finds him at The Arches.

Is it time for another dramatic showdown or will they put their differences aside in order to honour the memory of Dennis?
