For a few years now Laphroaigs Feis Ile offering has also been a Friends of Laphroaig (FOL) offering , very reasonably priced (usually around the £45 a bottle mark ) and very drinkable . This years bottling celebrates 18 years of the FOL programme , “it combines some of original liquid used to first create Càirdeas , further maturated and complemented with newer Laphroaig spirit that has been fully matured in quarter casks .”
Bottled at 51.2% abv , it is ripe Golden Barley in colour , A very distinct Laphroaig nose , iodine , peat , smoke etc but with quite a bit of citrus ( Lemon) and a hint of creamy fudge . The Palate is a good mixture of Laphroaig medicinal , peat , sweetness and my old favourite nettles . It is actually quite a relaxed palate but well and truly Laphroaig , a very good session dram (says he on his second pour……) . The finish is quite long , with peat , iodine and chocolatey coffee .
I actually really like this , it is a very good Laphroaig , good balance , pleasant on the nose , palate and finish . A first Class way to celebrate 18 years of FOL !
