Mum shares brilliant baby teething ring hack which helps soothe gums

Teething is tough on little ones.

Parents are all too familiar with the process of haphazardly dashing around to find something to soothe tiny gums.

There are, of course, a number of teething products on the high street, but a mum on TikTok has shared a homemade trick that works just as well.

TikTok user Janey – of the Mommy Academy – posted a tutorial on how to make a DIY teething ring out of a frozen muslin cloth.

In the video, Janey starts by dampening the cloths with cold water from her tap.

Afterwards, she rolls them all up and puts them in a metal cupcake tray.

Then she places the tray in the freezer for half an hour before giving one of the frozen cloths to her child.

Janey does, however, stress that the rings should be taken out after 15-30 minutes (and no later), to avoid freezer burn.

The video has racked up more than 97,000 likes so far, with many parents commenting on how they will be trying the hack for themselves.

One thrilled parent wrote: ‘My baby is going through it and this is such an amazing hack that I was looking for.’

‘This works wonders,’ one happy mum added.

While another ecstatic mum said: ‘This is perfect, we just survived tooth number four and I can see more coming.’

A different follower chipped in: ‘Works on puppies too. My go-to.’

TikTok is home to a plethora of everyday hacks and the teething ring trick isn’t the only one to emerge in recent weeks.

Writer Krista Torres shared a video on how to properly clean fruit, to ensure all the bugs and insects are removed. After soaking her fruit in salt water, Krista can be seen dry-heaving after seeing worms crawl from the flesh of the fruit.

While another TikTok user revealed a simple-yet-effective way to squeeze the juice out of lemon with a kitchen skewer.

4 years ago today !! How time flies when you’re having fun.You make me so happy and I’m so proud of you.You complete me.Happy anniversary my love @michkeegan 💙💙💙💙

A post shared byMark Wright (@wrighty_) on

This anniversary will be markedly different to last year’s when the couple were forced to celebrate away from each other due to filming commitments.

The loved-up couple were countries apart on the big day, with Mark partying in Marbella while Michelle was busy filming the hit TV series Our Girl.

But last year Mark Wright made the difficult decision to quit his dream job in LA and return to the UK to be with his wife Michelle Keegan full time.

Michelle and Mark – who started dating in 2013 – will be spending this anniversary together in their beautiful Essex lovenest complete with a lavish bedroom, huge garden and LOTS of mirrors.

Michelle told Fabulous that she never once put any pressure on Mark to give up his LA life, and insists it was entirely his choice.

She explained: “I never wanted to tell him to come back. It’s not my place to tell him what to do. I wanted him to be ready to do it himself – it’s his career and he made the choice. Hopefully it’s the right one.

“And you know, we saw each other a lot while he was over there. We weren’t going months and months without seeing each other, whatever people thought.

It worked. Yeah, the travelling could get exhausting, but at this time in our lives it was exciting and we can look back in 10 or 20 years time and say: ‘God, what a great experience that was.’”

Jamie Otis Shares More Details of Baby Hayes' Home Birth (& Sweet Pics!)

Jamie Otis knows a thing or two about sharing all of the parts of her life — joyous, emotional, and everything in between — with us. The Married at First Sight star and her husband, Doug Hehner, have dutifully been chronicling her second pregnancy on Instagram, up to and including the “eviction notice” she gave that ultimately led to the home birth that brought son Hayes Douglas into the world on May 13. Now, the reality star is reflecting on the challenges of labor during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as sharing gratitude for everything her body is doing to keep her and her family healthy.

On May 16, Otis posted new photos of Hayes — and his big sister, Henley Grace — to Instagram. With Hayes in her arms, and her girl hugging her legs, she seems as content as can be, but she’s also not going to sugarcoat all of the side-effects of pregnancy and the fourth trimester.

It’s wild to think just 3 days ago his whole body was INSIDE my belly.🤯🤰🏼👶🏼🌈⁣ ⁣ It is so amazing what a woman’s body can do! I mean, us women get one little sperm from a man & then we proceed to grow a tiny HUMAN inside us! …don’t even get me started on how strong we are to birth that tiny human — whether he’s pushed out or cut out, medicated or unmedicated — we are freakin superheroes!🦸🏼‍♀️ ⁣ ⁣ I pushed this little guy out in a tub of water right next to my bed in the middle of my bedroom. After I got him in my arms I got out of the tub with the placenta still inside me & attached to him, climbed up on my bed, delivered my placenta and got stitched up while my son snuggled on my chest.🤱🏻 I kinda felt like a bad-azz super mama for a hot second! 💪🏼 ⁣ ⁣ ….Until the fourth trimester hit me like a ton of bricks!😳 Ahh, the adrenaline soon ran out!😭 My vagina’s on fire, my butt feels like it exploded, and my nipples are back to being cracked and bleeding from nursing 🤷🏼‍♀️ (didn’t really expect this one since I nursed Gracie for a full year).🤪⁣ ⁣ Still, I wouldn’t change *any* of this journey. I feel so BLESSED to get to be a mommy again.🙏🏻 I don’t know what you think, but I def think the fourth trimester is the hardest trimester… physically, mentally, & emotionally! If anyone has tips to make it easier I’ll take ‘em! I’ve done this before but I’m wide open to learning/trying something new to heal faster!💪🏼⁣ ⁣ And total side note, but Doug and I have a huge announcement we want to share with you – our FRANS – first! We will be LIVE tomorrow right here on my Instagram at 7:30pm EST. Can’t wait to see you, share our news, and chat for a few minutes!💗⁣ ⁣ Another side note: that second pic Gracie came running up, kissed his foot, hugged me and then ran away 😭 Doug snapped the pic while I was saying “awwww!!!”🥰 She is such a sweetheart!☺️⁣

“It’s wild to think just 3 days ago his whole body was INSIDE my belly,” she wrote in the caption. “It is so amazing what a woman’s body can do! The mother of two, who opted for a home birth with a doula and a midwife given the understandable safety precautions many hospitals are taking to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, also shared what her experience entailed: She says she felt like a “bad-azz super mama” during the process of the tub birth, which took place in her bedroom. (Hehner shared photos on his own Instagram shortly after Hayes was born.)

He’s Here!! So proud of @jamienotis for how unbelievably brave, amazing, determined, and loving she was today! It was an intense but somewhat magical day of bringing Hayes Douglas Hehner into the world, less than 6 ft from our bed 🤯🙃😁 . The resemblance to @henleygracehehner is crazy, but more importantly, baby and mom are doing amazing & perfectly healthy👏🏼 . Our Midwife Dina and her assistant/dula Simone were incredible, and really made today a stress and worry free day! It felt like the world was forcing us to make one of the most difficult decisions of our lives in having a home birth or going to a hospital…. Little did I know it would be one of the most memorable and happiest days of my life! . This picture was taken minutes before Jamie pushed him out, caught him in her arms, and brought him up to her chest to say hello for the first time! . This was my game face!! 😁🤷🏼‍♂️🤙😉 . Welcome to the world Hayes Douglas Hehner! . A post shared by Doug Hehner (@doughehner) on

But Otis is also being super candid about all of the highs and emotional lows of the fourth trimester — i.e., the hormonal swing that occurs when your body kicks in to now help keep baby alive outside of your body. (For the record, she thinks it’s “the hardest trimester… physically, mentally, & emotionally.”) As the star wrote, shortly after she crawled into bed with Hayes on her chest, her “adrenaline soon ran out!😭 My vagina’s on fire, my butt feels like it exploded, and my nipples are back to being cracked and bleeding from nursing,” — a surprising side-effect, since she admits she “didn’t really expect this one since I nursed Gracie for a full year).”

“Still, I wouldn’t change *any* of this journey,” she added. “I feel so BLESSED to get to be a mommy again.”

Otis and Hehner, who also host the podcast Hot Marriage, Cool Parents, welcomed Gracie in 2017; her first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage in 2016. A chemical pregnancy followed in 2018, and Otis experienced another miscarriage in 2019. She previously called Hayes “truly an answered prayer for us.”

Women shares tip for keeping flowers fresh for weeks and all you need is a 2p

PEOPLE have been sharing their incredible trick of keeping their flowers fresh for weeks by simply placing a 2p coin inside the vase.

Taking to the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, the savvy homeowners shared how the hack had helped their bunches to stay alive for longer than normal.

One person shared a photo of their beautiful flowers, and said they had tried out the 2p trick.

They wrote: “These are nearly 2 weeks old, with a 2p in the bottom! Definitely works.”

Another posted a picture of their blooms with the caption: “Works for me.”

Other people recommended sticking a needle through the stem just under the flower head.

So what does science say about the 2p coin trick and does it really work to keep flowers fresh for longer?

According to The Conversation, copper coins do act as an antimicrobial agent.

They wrote: “Cut flowers begin to degrade almost instantly. Air and bacteria can block the small pores of the vascular system of plants, stopping vital water and food from being distributed around the flower, and they start to wilt.

“So by reducing the microorganisms in the flower’s water you should be able to increase the life of your flowers.

“So again, in theory, the copper in coins might be able to kill bacteria and keep cut flowers fresh."

However, they also added that not enough tests have been done to fully back up the theory.

We also shared a simple trick that will help your mascara last longer… no matter how dry it gets.

And here are genius iPhone battery life tricks to make your mobile last an ENTIRE day.

Mum shares brilliant tip for locking iPhone screen before letting kids use it

A brilliant tip for locking iPhone screens has been shared by a mum who doesn’t want her kids fiddling with the settings.

By activating the ‘Guided Access’ mode, it’s possible to disable the touchscreen on an iPhone without turning off the display.

It means parents can hand an iPhone to their kids to watch a YouTube video without fear of them getting into the phone’s other apps. The setting can be found in any iOS device, so it works with iPads as well.

The trick was shared on Facebook where it quickly picked up thousands of likes. It was also shared more than 128,000 times.

Labelling it a public service announcement, the tech-savvy mum wrote: ‘Those if you with iPhones…if you turn on Guided Access, you can hand your phone to baby when they’re watching a show and they’ can’t hit any buttons!

‘It locks it in that app. To turn off guided access, you have to triple click the home button (so it’s not easily done).’

How to use Guided Access to lock an iPhone touchscreen

If you have an iPhone (or iPad) go into the Settings menu and find the ‘General’ tab.

Scroll down to Accessibility and tap it, then go to the bottom to find the option to toggle on Guided Access.

Once you’ve toggled it on, all you need to do is triple-click the power switch (or Home button if you’re using an older iPhone or iPad) to enable it.

Now you can hand the phone over to your partner, child or pet without worrying about them poking and prodding through your phone.

RHOC’s Kara Keough shares throwbacks of her late dad Matt’s baseball days after his tragic death – The Sun

REAL Housewives Of Orange County star Kara Keough has shared some throwbacks of her late dad Matt from his baseball days.

The 32-year-old posted a black and white photo of Matt when he was an Oakland Athletics pitcher, after he died on Saturday at the age of 64.

Alongside the shot was a quote by Red Sox baseball star Ted Williams that read: "Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer."

Kara also shared a clip of Matt taking part in a 1978 All-Star game in her Instagram Stories.

The reality star tragically announced on Sunday that her father had died just one month after her newborn son passed away.

Kara wrote: "Daddy, please take care of my son. Teach him the circle changeup and how to find forever friends. You’re on grandpa duty in heaven now. Xoxo, Hammerhead."

Kara's mom, Jeana, also shared a tribute post about her ex-husband with a stunning picture of him in the early days.

Matt was initially married to the RHOC housewife but they had been separated for 15 years before she finally signed the divorce papers last year.

She claimed that Matt’s 1992 injury impacted their marriage severely. He was hit in the head with a baseball in the middle of a game.

The Oakland Athletics made the initial announcement about Matt without providing further details.

Billy Beane, the team's executive vice president of baseball operations, said in a statement: "Matt was a great baseball man and a proud Oakland A.

"He had an incredible passion for the game and we were lucky to have him and his wealth of knowledge alongside us for the years he worked as a special assistant.

"He left an unforgettable impression on everyone he touched in baseball.

"Our sincere condolences are with the entire Keough family tonight."

Many of Kara's fans rushed to the comments to offer their condolences.

RHOC alums Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson were some of the housewives to comment on the post.

Tamra wrote: "Oh Kara. I am so sorry. Big hugs."

While Vicki commented: "Kara, I am so sorry. There are no words to say except that you are loved."

Kara made the heartbreaking announcement about her son on social media earlier in April.

She wrote: "On April 6th, our son McCoy Casey Bosworth was born at 3:10am.

"Weighing in at 11 pounds and 4 ounces and spanning 21 inches, McCoy surprised us all with his size and strength (and overall perfection).

"During the course of his birth, he experienced shoulder dystocia and a compressed umbilical cord. He joined our Heavenly Father and will live forever in the hearts of his loving parents, his adoring sister, and those that received his life-saving gifts."

The daughter of Jeana Keough continued: "I wrote this for the organ/tissue procurement team to read out in his honor…'Tonight, we join together to honor this little savior’s gifts of life.

"'Through him, may others find new hope and profound healing… and may he live again through them.

"'May his legacy shine in the form of lifetimes aplenty – lives filled with laughter, compassion, energy, love, and most of all gratitude.

"'May it be said that McCoy Casey Bosworth left this world in a better place, for a better place…. that he made an impact… that he was an answered prayer… that he was a hero.

"'May angels lead him in.' Thank you, McCoy.”

Kara concluded her emotional post: "Until we see you again… We love you, McCoy."

Kara and her husband share a 4-year-old daughter, Decker.

Mother shares video of son to show what coronavirus cough sounds like

‘Mama, I’m not gonna go home’: Doctor shares shocking video of her four-year-old son struggling to breathe after contracting coronavirus as she warns parents to take the virus seriously

  • Anna Zimmerman posted a clip of little boy Lincoln who had difficulty breathing earlier this month on his fifth day in a Colorado medical facility
  • He was on as much as 9 liters of oxygen a day at one point and he would tell her: ‘Mama, this isn’t worth it. Mama, I’m not gonna go home’
  • He has since recovered but she warned watching a child suffer is heartbreaking
  • Zimmerman wrote: ‘The medical terms used to describe respiratory distress – seesaw breathing, nasal flaring, grunting, retracting, tachypneic – he had them’
  • ‘He will cough up slime, and look totally air hungry. His saturations will drop and his heart rate will spike,’ Zimmerman shared in her blog
  • She signed off: ‘Please stay safe. Please take this virus seriously – it is no joke’
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

A physician has shared a video of what a coronavirus cough can sound like in a child after her four-year-old son was hospitalized last month despite the family going into quarantine before Colorado ordered lockdowns.

Anna Zimmerman posted a clip of little boy Lincoln hooked up to tubes and having difficulty breathing on his fifth day in a medical facility and revealed the heartbreak of watching him in pain.

She wrote on her blog it was heartbreaking hearing him say: ‘Mama, this isn’t worth it. Mama, when is this going to stop? Mama, I don’t feel so good. Mama, it is no use. Mama, I’m not gonna go home.’

Lincoln has since recovered but Zimmerman warned parents to take COVID-19 seriously.

Anna Zimmerman posted a clip of little boy Lincoln who had difficulty breathing earlier this month on his fifth day in a Colorado medical facility

He first started sneezing March 21 and by March 30 he was needing more and more support and oxygen and was admitted to the hospital, his mother writes on her blog

‘As a physician, I followed the outbreak of COVID-19 in China and Italy closely. Although no state or federal mandate was in place, we pulled our kids out of Jiujitsu and swimming lessons early, because we believed this virus was dangerous before many people started to take it seriously,’ the mother explained on Mighty Littles.

‘The kids continued to go to preschool and kindergarten, and their last day at school was March 12th.’

The state of Colorado closed schools from March 16.

Zimmerman said her children never went on a playdate and she wouldn’t even let them go across the street to talk to their neighborhood friends.

‘We adopted the stay-at-home recommendations early and stuck to them. We did everything right’ she writes in the blog.

However on March 21 Lincoln began showing signs of coronavirus.

‘Lincoln sneezed a few times, I thought it was allergies. The following day he got a stuffy nose and slight cough. He didn’t have a fever and I wasn’t super worried, I assumed he picked up a little cold,’ she explained.

March 12: Last day of school and Lincoln’s quarantine begins.

March 16: Colorado State closes schools

March 21: Lincoln begins sneezing has a stuffy nose and slight cough. His mother has left the house once to go to Target and his father has left once to go to Costco since March 12.

March 27: Lincoln had a high fever of 104.5

March 28: Lincoln goes to the doctor and is diagnosed with pneumonia after a viral illness. They begin antibiotics and oxygen treatment at home.

March 30: Lincoln needs more support and oxygen and is admitted to hospital.

He needs 2l of oxygen and by that night 4l.

March 31: He needs 6l of oxygen then 9l. He develops seesaw breathing, nasal flaring, grunting, retracting, tachypneic and has to use muscles in his chest, abdomen, and neck to help him breathe

His labs and X-ray don’t look like Coronavirus but that night he tests positive.

April 4: Hospital day 6. He is starting to eat better, IV fluids are turned off and he’s on less than 1L of flow.

‘On March 27th, he got a fever – a high fever to 104.5. He looked miserable and pathetic. I started to worry. We saw the pediatrician first thing in the morning on March 28th, got a diagnosis of pneumonia after a viral illness (totally reasonable) and we did oral antibiotics and oxygen at home for the next 48 hours.’

Zimmerman said Lincoln had moments where he looked ‘totally fine’, and other moments where he looked sick.

By March 30 he was needing more and more support and oxygen and was admitted to the hospital, his mother writes.

But she still wasn’t convinced he had coronavirus as after March 12 only Zimmerman and her husband left the property. He went to Costco once and she went to Target once.

‘I knew walking into the hospital that we would be there for a few days – I thought three, maybe four. I knew that he would be placed on a ‘COVID rule out’ – where they treat him as if he has it until the testing comes back negative,’ the physician wrote online. ‘And, because I am familiar with hospital policies on COVID, I knew that I would not be able to leave his room until his testing was negative.’

From needing 2 liters of oxygen from his first day in medical care to requiring 9 liters by the following night, Zimmerman became increasingly anxious and described watching her son in pain as ‘agony’.

‘He was working so hard to breathe – using all of the muscles in his chest, abdomen, and neck to help him breathe,’ Zimmerman wrote. ‘The medical terms used to describe respiratory distress – seesaw breathing, nasal flaring, grunting, retracting, tachypneic – he had them all.’

Zimmerman said even though his labs and X- Ray didn’t look like coronavirus, the doctor confirmed on his second night in hospital that he had COVID-19.

The mother cried at hearing the news and didn’t understand how the child got ill despite the family being so careful.

‘His timeline didn’t fit. His labs didn’t fit. His X-ray didn’t fit. We took all the precautions,’ she explained.

‘I did everything right. I was supposed to keep my family safe and I failed.’

Zimmerman was also worried the rest of her family could get sick and found it difficult being apart from them while she isolated in the hospital room with Lincoln.

She struggled not being able to have contact with him and watching him refuse to eat due to loss of appetite.

He was on as much as 9 liters of oxygen a day at one point and he would tell her: ‘Mama, this isn’t worth it. Mama, I’m not gonna go home’

Zimmerman wrote: ‘The medical terms used to describe respiratory distress – seesaw breathing, nasal flaring, grunting, retracting, tachypneic – he had them’

‘He will cough up slime, and look totally air hungry. His saturations will drop and his heart rate will spike,’ Zimmerman shared in her blog

‘I can’t even bribe him to eat chocolate pudding or chocolate milk or chocolate ice cream — and this is my kid who asks me first thing in the morning ‘Mama, are you hiding chocolate from me?’ nearly every morning,’ she joked on the blog.

By the time she shared the video of his dry cough, Lincoln had been in hospital five days on April 4 and was beginning to eat small amounts. His oxygen had been brought down to 4 liters but he still had ‘the WORST cough ever’.

‘He will cough up slime, and look totally air hungry. His saturations will drop and his heart rate will spike,’ Zimmerman shared.

She described him as sleeping 16 hours a day with 30-minute bursts of being upbeat.

She added about her isolation: ‘Did I mention I don’t have a shower???’

Zimmerman said friends and neighbors have dropped off food and body wipes.

As she encouraged others to reach out to those who may be in need, the mother said Lincoln was doing much better by day 6 in hospital. He was off IV fluids and on just 1 liter of oxygen.

‘No one blamed or shamed us for our son testing positive,’ she said about the support. ‘I hope that this sense of community will persist after we move back towards our daily lives after COVID.

‘Please stay safe. Please stay healthy. Please take this virus seriously – it is no joke.’
