Talking my fave jewels over on the blog this week ✨

A post shared bymeganellaby (@meganellaby) on

This season brings a host of hat trends to try out, including, of course, the bucket hat which has been enjoying a massive resurgence for some time and is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Spring/Summer 2020 shows saw softer and more textured versions of the style: Anna Sui sent floral tweed and Broderie Anglaise bucket hats down the runway, while Koche kept things utilitarian in classic black bucket hats.

Elsewhere, headscarves, military detailing, natural straw fabrics, throwback cloche silhouettes and futuristic visors were seen all over the SS20 catwalks, proving once and for all that there’s a style to suit all headwear tastes — even if you have a penchant for diamante-adorned, skyscraping cowboy hats (see: Marc Jacobs).

If you're stuck in a lockdown wardrobe rut, there's really no easier way to refresh your look than with a fabulous new piece of headgear, so read on for our essential round-up of summer hats that will see you through this season and beyond.

1. Best baseball cap: Patagonia’s P-6 Label Trad Cap

  • Patagonia P-6 Label Trad Cap, £‌38 from Reformation – buy here

EU Boss: Summer holidays in Europe COULD be possible

Summer holidays in Europe COULD be possible if people stick to social distancing, EU boss von der Leyen says

  • EU chief said holidays could be possible by finding ‘smart solutions’ to tourism
  • Holidays would be different, with hygiene precautions and social distancing
  • Governments should lift measures ‘step by step and always with vigilance’
  • Her comments come a week after she told holidaymakers to not make plans
  • Learn more about how to help people impacted by COVID

European holidaymakers can be optimistic that a summer getaway is still possible despite the coronavirus pandemic, the European Commission’s president has said.

A week after telling jet-setters hoping for a European holiday to not make any plans this summer, Ursula von der Leyen has now suggested that holidays could be possible by finding ‘smart solutions.’

‘I think we are going to find smart solutions to have a summer vacation,’ the German said in an interview with Portuguese news outlet Expresso.

‘Maybe a little different, with other hygiene measures, with a little more social distance, but it is impressive to see that we have found solutions. So I am optimistic about summer holidays.’

Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission’s president (pictured in the European parliament) has said holidays in Europe could be possible by finding ‘smart solutions’

Von der Leyen was responding to a question about whether Europeans would at least be able to holiday in the country where they live. However, she did not explicitly state in her comments whether she was talking about holidays abroad or domestically.

For many countries in Southern Europe, the prospect of no income from tourism is particularly dire, and such countries will be eager to find ways to accommodate visitors as soon as possible.

Von der Leyen said it was ‘good’ that countries are beginning to lift ‘restrictive measures’ but warned that governments should do so ‘with care, step by step and always with vigilance.’

Her comments will provide some optimism for the many people who have been forced to cancel their holiday plans due to the global coronavirus crisis.

While travels to countries further abroad are still unlikely with flight restrictions in place, a holiday closer to home could provide people with that much-needed escape after months in lockdown.

‘It is difficult to predict what the next months will be like, but what I see is that we are beginning to learn to live with the virus’, said von der Leyen, who added that she was ‘impressed’ with solutions that are being found by sectors to cope with the crisis.

‘For example, I am impressed to see how innovative the economy is, in the way production has changed,’ she said. ‘Workers work in shifts, with smaller groups, with social distance, with new hygiene measures.’

Such measures, she hopes, can also be used to reopen the tourism sector that so many countries in Europe benefit from.

Her comments came after the European Commission published a series of guidelines to the 27 EU countries on how to improve coordination when it comes to lifting the measures in place to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

One of the measures in these guidelines is for governments to ensure that hospitals, and particularly intensive care units, have the capacity to treat patients with Covid-19 and also other diseases.

European countries, particularly those in the south like Spain, produce a lot of income through tourism. Tourist hot spots face a dire summer economically without income from tourism. Pictured: A beach in Spain lies empty as tourism is restricted because of the coronavirus crisis

Von der Leyen’s comments are more optimistic than those she gave last week in an interview with German newspaper Bild, in which she said ‘I’d advise everyone to wait before making holiday plans.

‘At the moment, no one can make reliable forecasts for July and August. We will need to learn to live with this virus for many months, probably until next year.’

These comments came after France warned European countries to keep their borders closed until September, while saying that French borders would have strict controls imposed on them until October 30.

Meanwhile, French president Emmanuel Macron has called for external borders with the passport-free Schengen zone, of which Britain is not a part, to remain closed until September.

For British people, holidays outside the country will be more unlikely. While tourists in mainland Europe can travel more easily to other countries, Britons rely heavily on airlines.

Last month, budget airline easyJet grounded all of its flights indefinitely, while British Airways stopped its flights from Gatwick Airport on April 1.

Airlines that fly tourists all across Europe have grounded flights and furloughed staff, while borders between European countries remain closed or heavily restricted

BA later furloughed 36,000 of its employees on a modified version of the government’s job retention scheme.

Luton-based carrier easyJet confirmed it will get a £600million loan from the government’s coronavirus fund, and is borrowing an additional £400million from creditors.

The decision sparked a row with founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou who had previously urged directors to scrap a £4.5billion order with Airbus for more than 100 new planes.

Meanwhile, Jet2 has cancelled all flights and holidays until mid-June because restrictions put in place due to the coronavirus pandemic show no sign of easing.

The travel firm, which is Britain’s second-biggest holiday company and owned by Dart Group, said in a statement that its holidays and flights would not now restart until June 17.

Since April 4, Britons have been warned by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) against all non-essential global travel abroad ‘indefinitely’.

According to the latest figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, European countries in the EU, the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK have seen a combined total of 947,693 confirmed cases on the coronavirus, with 164,656 total deaths.

'Summer House': Carl Radke Shares How He Became Friends With the Original Cast

Summer House original cast member, Cark Radke recently shared how he not only became friends with the original cast. He also revealed how he got on the Bravo show.

Radke discussed how he was a production assistant on television shows like Criminal Minds and was meandering in his career path. He tried acting and modeling while he was living in Los Angeles. But said he was disenfranchised by the industry. He moved back east to sell dental supplies in Newport Beach. “From there it brought me to New York City,” he said on Out in the Wild podcast. “I was making money and going to the Hamptons.”

He said he liked sales and enjoyed the money that came with the job. “I was making well over $300,000 a year,” he reveals. “And I was going to the Hamptons and partying.” So how did he ultimately connect with the rest of the cast and end up on the Bravo show?

It started with Everett Weston

He was living the high life, hanging in the Hamptons, which is where he met Kyle Cooke. “The first memory Kyle, if you ever get him on the podcast, will tell you that he saw me at this day place, and I had a six-liter of rosé,” he recalls. “He was at the Surf Lodge.”

“So I was just what they call peacocking. I was just partying. I had money, I didn’t care,” Radke continues. He adds, “I was living my life. I met Kyle and I met the Wirkus’s, I met Lindsay [Hubbard].” He adds he also knew Everett Weston.

“And fast forward another year almost, I was basically getting my teeth cleaned by my dentist,” he recalls. “He’s a good friend. But he was also a friend of Everett’s. In the dental chair, getting my teeth cleaned, he said, ‘Hey your buddy Everett’s got a show on Bravo.’ And I’m literally like, ‘What the f**k?’”

Bravo was just about to begin filming ‘Summer House’

Radke recounts that producers were about to begin filming season one. “I email Everett after the appointment,” he says. “I said, ‘Hey, congrats on the show. What’s it about?’ He cc’s Kyle on the response and says, ‘Hey we’re looking for another guy.’”

“And I’m like, ‘Cool. Put my name in the hat.’ That was four years ago,” Radke adds. “Everett’s no longer there and me and Kyle are basically the only two guys left on the show.” He recalls the original cast being Weston and Cooke. “But again, you have to remember this was a group of friends. Like they wanted a crew of people who all knew each other.”

He says there was “one other dude” who was committed but dropped out. But that’s when the rest of the original cast members fell into place. Radke said during season one he wanted to “Pack my s**t and leave. Like, ‘We don’t know what we are doing there. This is crazy.’” Adding there were cameras everywhere including the bedroom. “There’s microphones in the headboards,” Radke shares. Also, even in the trees surrounding the property.

Radke says, “There’s no show on Bravo like our show. There’s no show on reality T.V. like ours.” He says even with the new people, they all hang out together. Radke also said he got fired from his dental job because of the show. “Season one we filmed all summer,” he says. “The show doesn’t air until January.” He had a feeling he might be fired after the trailer was released.

Summer House airs on Wednesday night at 9/8c on Bravo.

Man Utd set for summer transfer shake-up with five stars future under threat including Pogba and de Gea – The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED finally appear to have turned the corner under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After his team's previously tepid performances had repeatedly drawn ridicule – the signing of Bruno Fernandes appears to have galvanised the fading Old Trafford giants.

The Red Devils are currently on an 11-match unbeaten run – equalling their previous best under Solskjaer – which famously came at the start of the Norwegian's tenure.

United sit three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea – but the 1999 legend's men are on the rise.

The 47-year-old masterminded a 2-0 victory over rivals Manchester City last weekend, a result going some way to justifying Ed Woodward's continued faith in his manager.

And the United chief is set to back Solskjaer again in the summer – but may have to trim the squad accordingly.

The Mirror believe that five players could be leaving United's Carrington training base for the final time at the end of the season.

And we examine what could happen to the Old Trafford stars headed for the exit.

1) David de Gea

Why he could go: The Spanish stopper hasn't quite looked himself for some time now – having made high-profile gaffs against the likes of Watford and Everton this season.

Who could replace him: Solskjaer could have a ready-made replacement in-house – in the shape of Sheffield United loan star Dean Henderson, 23 – with the Blades actually having conceded fewer goals than the Red Devils.

Where he could end up: De Gea signing a new contract in September hasn't put off long-term suitors Real Madrid – who could launch a fresh £70million move for the 29-year-old in the summer.

Will he be missed?: Having repeatedly won United's Player of the Year award – De Gea will always be remembered as a brilliant Red Devils No1 by fans – but with his form having deteriorated, they may feel it's the right time to try someone new between the sticks.

2) Marcos Rojo

Why he could go: Because he simply isn't good enough – and has nowhere near justified his reported £100,000-a-week wages.

United have been desperate to shift the 29-year-old for a while – but are yet to find a suitor.

Who could replace him: Given that the Argentine has started only once in the Premier League this season – he won't take much replacing.

Nevertheless Solskjaer will be interested in strengthening his defence – with Napoli superstar Kalidou Koulibaly having been linked.

Where he could end up: Literally anywhere that will take him. Estudiantes in his native Argentina have been linked – while Everton tried to sign him back in August.

Will he be missed?: The defender has had his moments in a United shirt but has always been erratic – with an inexplicable act of footballing lunacy never feeling too far away. So probably not at all.

Should I cancel my summer holiday? Coronavirus experts say to keep it booked despite virus – The Sun

AIRLINES have been cancelling flights across Europe as Brits avoid going on holiday because of coronavirus.

Carriers have seen high numbers of cancellations and no-shows as the virus spreads across the continent and the Italian tourist board has made a public reassurance to would-be holidaymakers that the country is safe to visit.

Follow our coronavirus live blog to stay up to date with the latest news and updates

But according to the experts, there is little point in cancelling most trips just yet – as it all depends on the location and how far along they are with the virus by the time you travel.

Speaking at a press conference that outlined the government's six-point plan for battling the virus, Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said: "A lot depends on where the outbreaks are.

"At the moment the outbreaks are across Europe and across most of the world in some form or other and they are contained in many places but are becoming un-contained in some places.

"And again it depends on the stage.  Once the epidemic is everywhere then at that point restricting travel makes no difference at all.

'Summer House': Kyle and Amanda Set a Wedding Date

After all the squabbling and drama, Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula from Summer House revealed they finally have a date for their wedding.

The couple got engaged last season on the show. But a year passed and Cooke and Batula still didn’t have a date or a venue. While they moved in together, they both shared in confessionals and with other cast members that their relationship took a turn toward the “old married couple” direction. Cooke complained that Batula wasn’t the most organized person at home and fell asleep early.

On the other hand, Batula shared that living with Cooke was like living with her dad. She felt that Cooke made too many domestic demands on her, leaving her feeling pretty resentful. The Summer House season trailer teases that the couple’s relationship is on the rocks. But the couple’s latest announcement proves otherwise.

A New York-based wedding

Cooke shared that the wedding will take place close to home this fall. “We have set a date, it’s in September. And it’s a fairly local venue. So we’re incredibly excited. It’s gonna be like kind of like a New York City wedding,” he shared on Bravo’s The Daily Dish podcast.

He added in another Daily Dish interview that he is looking forward to the nuptials. He envisioned,  “a night full of highlights — all the people we care about in one room celebrating us. I’m also just dying to see what dress she picks.”

Cooke recently shared a funny Boomerang video with Batula to prove they are still together too. “Sometimes we’re a perfect match 👯‍♀️,” he wrote. Batula added, “Y’all know I don’t smile for photos. I’m not miserable, I just didn’t realize this was a boomerang.”

This is one reason why wedding planning has taken so long

Cooke and Batula shared in the first episode this season that their wedding venue fell through. As Cooke shared what happened during a house dinner, he became irritated when Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo started talking amongst themselves and giggling. This led to an argument with Batula siding with the ladies.

The couple has complained about each other steadily throughout the season. This prompted Batula to write a lengthy Instagram post about their relationship, sharing that not all journeys to the alter are linear. “Just as there are no rules for dating, there are no rules for engagements (except the tv show),” she shared on Instagram. “Some people elope, go to city hall, plan their wedding in less than a year, or are engaged for 5+ years before getting married. Kyle and I went through a lot right before getting engaged, and I am so glad he is so excited to get married, but I needed more time.”

Batula also revealed why the couple lost their venue in the comments section. “The wedding venue wouldn’t let us film there which is why it ‘fell through’ secrets out.” Cooke told The Daily Dish why the new venue seems to be secure. “We actually went looking for a venue on camera. So, it actually worked out.”
